Thailand - Songkran Festival (13 - 16 April)

I’m finally back (without any sponsored ads hehe) and promise to do a proper entry for this one!

I just went back Thailand in April to visit my relatives for Songkran (water festival aka Thai New Year which happens every April 13) When I was young, I did not have the chance to visit during songkran because our holidays are only in June or December. So when I graduated from Poly last year, I quickly arranged with my family for a trip back! And this year I went again =)

I think everyone should try visiting Thailand during Songkran, their celebration is really awesome. Afterall, it’s the country’s most flamboyant holiday! I figured I should do a post on what to expect/prepare if you’re going to Thailand for Songkran, so here goes =)

Ok, songkran sounds interesting. When is it?

From 12th to 16th April, you will find Bangkok’s street strange – less traffic because everyone are heading back to their hometown provinces to celebrate this festival. From 13th April, the first day of Songkran, the streets will be filled with famed water fights and road parties haha.

Please do not expect most offices, banks, shops or restaurant to be open although there will be some shops along tourist area which will remain open for travellers who flock to Thailand for their wild and wet festival.

1. Put your phone and notes in waterproof bag.
Trust me, you’ll be drenched to the bone. No mercy is given when it comes to splashing of water – especially if you’re a tourist. I’ve seen how the Thais went all out to splash the tourist and they tend to be friendlier to their own hahaha

If you travel few days prior to Songkran period, you will see the streets selling small waterproof bags for around 100B (I think) which are really useful. Get that. For me, I usually get SIM card when I land, so the nice people selling the SIM card there passed it to me for free!

2. Put on your sunglasses and keep your mouth closed
Do this if you don’t want water getting into your eyes, or drink a questionably amount of clean water. I hate it when I wanna start a water war but the annoying kid keeps spraying water into my eyes then I end up getting wet from head to toe with his water gun and I can't have my revenge because half the time I can't keep my eyes open with the water haha

3. For WOMEN: Please put on dark clothes
Keep your modesty intact so when you get drenched and will not find that your clothes are transparent.
I was out with my Thai cousin to get some groceries on the last day of Songkran and we kinda forget there are still some kids who are excitedly waiting for their victim. On our way out on the bike, we saw a group of kids with pail and…..SPLASH, I was drenched and super cold as we rode against the wind. Then my cousin told me that she could see my panty colour showing thru the pants =( So, lesson learnt.  No light coloured clothing. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

4. For MEN: Lay low
Other than their cheap clothes and tasty food, Thailand is also famous for having lady boys – which are Thai – which will be joining in for Songkran – which love to touch guys.

My brother was their victim. What happened was that we were on the back of a pickup truck together with the kids, and my Thai aunt was driving us along the streets of water war. Cars/motorbikes/vans are supposed to stop or slow down for them to splash water onto us. So our car slowed down and we began splashing water against the people on the streets, one of the lady boy walked towards our car and groped by brother in his balls HAHAHAHA. After this incident, he always sit down to protect himself. So yeah, LAY LOW. Balls on the ground yo.

5. The last point – don’t be an easy target
Carry a big water gun to fight back! There are water points everywhere so you could load your water gun whenever you are running low.

1. Please DO NOT splash water on monks, babies and elderly people.
BIG NO-NO. It is disrespectful and also unsafe.

 2. Most cars and motorbikes will slow down or stop for you to splash , but if they do not, don’t splash onto them as it might cause traffic accident. Everyone wants to have fun but do stay safe at the same time!

 3. Play nice – If you see people who are dining at open areas, do not splash water at them.

Now that you’re prepared, get ready to laugh and have loads of fun!

Review: NEW Essential Sleeping Hair Mask

Hi all lovely people! How's your week so far? Mine was super busy I had to multitask as I eat (if you'd like to know lol)

Less on what I've been up to, today I'm here to introduce a new product from Essential!

If you haven't heard, Essential is a popular hair care brand for damaged hair in Japan. They offer products ranging from basic care items like shampoo and conditioner to treatment items such as intensive hair mask and leave on hair treatments. What's more, it is made with natural ingredients!

Understanding the needs for Singaporean girls and our damaged care woes, Essential has a wide range of products to help repair and care for damaged hair. Today, I will share with you on the new Essential Sleeping Hair Mask.

Do you know why must we protect our hair from pillow?

When sleeping, tossing and turning causes hair to rub against the pillow, causing friction. Well, this is called the Pillow Friction. This actually causes our hair cuticles to open up unevenly, causing hair to be rough, frizzy or prone to tangle! And this damage caused by pillow friction is called Pillow Damange.

Presenting to you the 6 annoying criminals causing my hair woes:

Frizz and Toss are mainly behind my damaged hair! My hair is already frizzy so no thanks to pillow damaged to make it x10 frizz when I wake up =(

Day 1: before bed - how I usually sleep and generally hair is still ok before I go to bed. The nightmare comes only when I wake up and see my frizzy, unmanageable hair. So nothing much, off to sleep and meet tiny monsters who messes my hair LOL
Ps: sleepy eyes cos I was really heading for bed after I took this lol

Day 2: wake up hair - I know I wake up every morning with frizzy, unmanageable hair like a lion's mane. Picture for proof haha and yknow how ppl takes picture upload and #wakeupface yup, this is my #bedhair confirm negative 10 likes on ig LOLOLOL

And if this frizz and bomb-blasted wake up hair isn't torturing enough, I need to wake up half an hour earlier to wash my hair in order to tame it. Pfffft.

Day 2 night - Here's the STAR! Super excited to use it hahaha

As the name suggest, apply this onto hair before going to bed! It's milky, non-greasy texture is absorbed instantly to form protective layer between each strand and pillow. It's a mask for your hair! Did I mention it smells good too? Yay to therapeutic sleep HAHAHA and ya I usually sleep in the same PJs unless I sweat in it and it starts to smell LOLOLOLOL

Day 3 improvement - Look right, RIGHT. Hair became more manageable and less frizz in just one night! So really, damages really do come from our very own smelly pillow OMAIGWAD WHY PILLOW WHY, I HAVE HAD YOU FOR SO MANY YEARS AND YOU CAN'T PROTECT MY HAIR T.T

Well, there are still frizz here and there since my hair isn't really healthy to start with haha but hey, in just 1 night I could feel my hair become smooth and better! Gonna start using this diligently and look forward to my healthier looking hair!

So happy because I don't have to wake up earlier to wash + blow my hair every morning. Thank you Essential Sleeping Hair Mask. I am your No.1 fan now! Secretly hoping you can send me another bottle based on my previous sentence HAHAHAH but its fine if you don't. Know why?

You'd be further impressed to know that Essential Sleeping Hair Mask retails at only $11.90 at all leading supermarkets, hypermarkets, personal care stores and pharmacies.

21 and Graduated

Hi there! Am feeling reeeeally guilty because my recent post have been filled with reviews instead of updates. But then again, not sure if anyone is keen on reading up what I've been doing right haha.

I wanna share a story. This is gonna be a long entry.

You see, I have a very close relationship with my dad. I love him truckloads. Along the way, I had my rebellious times and hurt him many times...he was mad, but forgave me (after giving me very harsh punishments lol). Last year, I turned 21 and threw myself a party using my own hard-earned money and I didn't invite him because we fought.

Then I realize I wasn't happy. I had friends filled in the room wishing me well-wishes, I had nicely decorated place with my favorite helium balloons, expensive gifts, handmade gifts which I truly appreciate.....I felt happy but somehow I didn't feel the joy I'm supposed to feel. And why?

The person who taught me to be who I am wasn't there.

What was I really celebrating then, when the person who loved me the most and taught me how to become a better person through these 20 years wasn't present?

I took down my pride and ego. I apologized to my dad, even when the reason we fought was because he was in the wrong haha. Then I made a promise to myself. My dad was not there the day I turned 21, so I want him to be there my entire year of being 21. To me, being 21 doesn't means getting gold key necklaces or whatnot. It means you're supposed to enter adulthood where you become a sensible, independent person.

I think I am doing pretty well and independent for someone at my age. Earning a decent income to support myself - I pay my own bills/travel expenses/food/studies. In short, I stopped taking money from my parents and in fact I even give my dad part of my income whenever I can.

I'm very stubborn when it comes to this kinda thing, like once I've decided to be independent, it's all the way. When I just graduated, I have no savings at all. Probably max $200 in my account?? And even when I was down w my last $50 I refused to ask my parents for money. This one must thank JR cos he always support me unconditionally when I was drained financially hehe thanks baby! With some help from JR, I looked for jobs and career opportunity.

First job, bad job. I love events, and knew it was my thing when I was part of the committee which plan and organize events/gatherings/camp etc back in poly days. So I ventured into events industry. I was lucky to be employed without any real experience, and loved my job for about a month before I realized the horror in there.

Ok, here's what I was offered and did in my ex-company:

I was offered $1,700 and additional $150 after probation. I know fresh grad usually gets about $1,800 above? But I had zero experience. And here I am talking about society working experience. And no, having work part-time here and there + spending 2 to 6 months internship doesn't means you have experience. Most of the times it only means you have seen things get done, you have no idea how it is done. All that you experienced prior to graduation are tip of the iceberg. When you really stepped out and join the working society, you'll realize the "experience" you always thought you had is nothing. Believe me, I was there.

Back to topic. I was offered $1,700 and had the opportunity to work with reputable brands. Colleagues were nice people, even there was politics which I try as much as possible not to be in. Horror came when my efforts were took for granted. I was no ok was the way how HR was unappreciative of my efforts, and how one colleague tried to create shit by reporting every single thing to my ex-boss.

I believe I had the capability to grow in event industry, but not with these type of people. And I wasn't afraid because I know I really worked hard and had reasons for what I did. Whatever the HR did, maybe she just wanted to follow company policy in order not to get herself in trouble, I don't know. But I could forgive her. Afterall, when I tendered, she had a talk with me and even broke down when 3 other colleagues left together with me.

But what one of my colleague did was really outrageous. I forgive him though, he had a small heart and an airhead. One of the dumb thing he did was to snap a picture of me with another male colleague having lunch together then sent over to my ex-boss claiming that we had "something on". The best part? My ex-boss believed -.- I will never forget what he told me: "Please work individually from now onwards." Wow, ever heard of events planner working ON HER OWN? So I am not allowed to brainstorm for ideas or have any discussion with my team anymore. I don't know how, but surprisingly my ex-boss managed to run his business for this long.

Then I decided to leave. There was no point for me to work so hard when my efforts go unappreciated. Well, at least at one of the major event I handled, the client came personally to thank me for all the hard work for past 3 days. That was the one of the few good memories my ex-company left me with. And what, I was only paid $1,700 for all these bullshits?! Thanks but no thanks.

Had a talk with my HR and ex-boss, which they tried to convince me to stay but I refused. I was unhappy, so was my 3 other colleagues so......we abit childish lah, tender together and left the company on the same day happily. After that we went to celebrate HAHAHAHA.

I have no idea how talking about my dad lead to me telling story about my ex-company, but yeah.

Note to self and everyone else: When your efforts go unappreciated, leave.
